    GNU tools for DOS/Windows Recommended tools to cope with bzip2 and tar format files (.tar.bz2), also provide utilities like grep, make and man. In particular these tools enable tar file format softlink to hardlink conversion, crucial for uncompressing some tar files.

  • Free download of GNUSH and GNUH8 tool chains for Renesas SH and H8 Series. Offers free support to European customers.

Operating Systems and Tools vendors that work on H8
  • FREErtos.org port to H8S FREErtos is a well known Operating System that is shown here ported to H8S EDK board (EDK2329) board. Supports EDK2329 'out of the box', instructions for other H8S porting can be gleaned from the site.

  • uC Linux port to H8S uC Linux is a well known Operating System that is shown here ported to H8S boards with ethernet and other parts.

  • Xtreme Minimum Kernel Project XMK is an open source preemptive multitasking kernel for 8bit microcontrollers. XMK runs on the entire H8 family and supports the GNU compiler as well as Hitachi's HEWx compilers.

  • Micro Robotics - VM-1 Controller Daughter card with its own operating system and language that uses an H8S to provide the I/O and control functions, examples, starter kits, application cards and other useful tools.

  • H8 O/S. DOS like operating system for H8 boards includes code and circuits for various H8 boards (including H8-Tiny) with support for IDE, USB, Network. Software for H8/38xx, H8-Tiny and SH2, printf/scanf, webserver (HTTP), RAM uploader, Writer.
    Main language Japanese, but most pages in English.

  • CMX Inc Real Time OS for many platforms including H8 and GNU compiler. Of Special interest CMX-Tiny version for H8 and Super-H.

  • Computer Solutions Ltd. UK Based supplier of various tools for embedded tools and OS.

  • BrickOS alternative OS for Lego Brick (Lego Mindstorms RCX controller using H8/3292 controller). See also description here.
